Choquequirao Trek 4 Days

Choquequirao Lost city of the Incas, where the Incas took refuge after the Spanish invasion. It is located in the Vilcabamba Valley – Province of the Convention. The archaeological complex of Choquequirao is considered as important as Machupicchu because of the similarity between its constructions. Our trip starts from the city of Cusco. After traveling 145 km of paved road and 10 km of rocky road, we will first arrive to the town of Cachorra, where the road to our desired destination begins with about 32 km. We will be surrounded by valleys and gorges, with impressive fauna and flowers of the Apurimac canyon “the deepest in the world”. Until we reach Choquequirao “Cradle of Gold”.

  • 4 DAYS / 3 NIGHTS

First Day: CUSCO – SANTA ROSA – CHIQUISCA:

Pickup form hotel at  06:30 a.m. and head towards Abancay in bus, passing through the towns of Izcuchaca, to arrive at the District of Limatambo, where we will visit the Archaeological site of Tarawasi. Then we will continue our trip alongside the river until we cross the Cunyac Bridge of the Apurímac River (divides Cusco and Apurímac). We arrive at Cachora at approximately 10am. At this location we will begin our long trek along a beautiful footpath, walking for about 2 hours until arriving at Chiquisca (1930m), our first campsite.

Second Day: CHIQUISCA – PLAYA ROSALINDA – SUNCHUPATA:

Breakfast served at 05:00 a.m. and afterwards we continue with our long walk towards the Play Rosalinda (1550m) and towards Santa Rosa (2100m) where we will have a delicious lunch, where we can converse, notice the climate change and appreciate the beautiful valley.

Third Day: SUNCHUPATA – CHOQUEQUIRAO – CHIQUISCA:

After a recuperating night’s rest and delicious breakfast rest, we will begin our long walk towards our goal, the archaeological complex of Choquequirao. Our guide will give us a 3 hour long educational tour. Afterwards, we will begin our descent towards Santa Rosa where we will have our lunch, a good rest, and head towards Chiquisca, the location of our third campsite.

Fourth Day: CHIQUISCA – CAPULINNIYOC – CACHORA:

After a complete breakfast, we direct our energy and motivation towards Capulinniyoc, another two hours for Cachora and from there we depart back to Cusco.

  • Transport from the hotel to the train station
  • Train ticket for Machu Picchu (Backpacker Service)
  • Entrance ticket to the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu
  • Bus ticket from the town of Aguas Calientes to the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu
  • Profession guide in English or Spanish
  • Transport required for tours
  • Transfers during your stay
  • Constant attendance from the tour agency

It is recommended that you bring the following:

  • Backpack with a change of hiking clothes – Recommended: shorts, and some warm clothes.
  • Poncho or rain gear such as water proof jacket and pants (you can purchase plastic ponchos in Cusco)
  • Hiking boots or shoes.
  • Camera or photographic equipment with extra supply of batteries
  • Hat with a broad rim to protect you from the sun, rain and cold.
  • Sun block
  • Insect repellent
  • Toilet paper and personal tissues
  • Snacks: crackers, chocolates and energy bars, etc.
  • Bottled water and purification tablets (Micropur)
  • Small towel and swimming shorts (in case you choose to use the hot springs)Si
  • Passport
  • Optional: walking sticks with rubber tip

Optional Service:

Extra horse for your personal belongings: 1 horse can carry up to 20 kilos.
