We take a 45 Min. ride to Atalaya (500m rainforest) where we will board our motorized canoe that will take us to our lodge (40min. downstream) situated on the banks of the mighty Alto Madre de Dios River. Here we will spend the day exploring the surrounding area and the very interesting trails that make up an amazing ecosystem. In a nearby little oxbow lake and mysterious swamp we have the opportunity to see the enigmatic prehistoric Hoatzin bird, and also some Caimans, Capibaras, Squirrel monkeys, and other species of birds. After dinner, we will hear the sounds of the Amazon at night, especially from vocal the Night Monkey (Aotus trivirgatus), but also from the Kalinowski rodent, frogs, Great Potoos and the Pigmy Owl among many other nightly inhabitants we encounter during a night walk. Very early in the morning we begin by sailing 15 minutes down the river to observe a parrot clay lick (collpa); this is a rich deposit of natural minerals and clay in the wall of the river. Here we can observe different species of Parrots, parakeets and Macaws giving us an impressive show of color and sound. After breakfast, and this unforgettable bird performance, we will continue downstream toward the native community of Shipetiari (Matshiguenka Tribe). On this tour we may see a variety of birds as well as some mammals along the riverside, and we will also enjoy the natural hot Springs. The afternoon will be dedicated to exploring the Matshiguenka community and sharing in their activities. At night we will have the opportunity for a walk where with luck we will see night birds and also to hear spectacular sounds. We spend the night on platform huts (B,L,D)

On our fourth day, we will do a nature walk and then our boat will take us to Port Atalaya where the bus will be waiting for us. We will travel to our welcoming lodge in Pilcopata where we will spend our last night. (B,L,D)
